Long Grove is an affluent village located in Lake County, Illinois, approximately 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Chicago. As of the 2005 census, the village had a total population of 6,735. The village has strict building ordinances to preserve its "country atmosphere." There are no sidewalks, street lights or curbs throughout the village's many communities.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 12.4 square miles (32.2 km²), of which, 12.3 square miles (31.8 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it is water. The total area is 1.21% water.

Before 1840, a Yankee, John Gridley, settled at a minor trail crossing deep in Long Grove, a large grove of oaks standing in bluestem prairie along the southern boundary of Lake County. Excerpted from Wikipedia
